Narrative

HUNTSBURG, OH – A suspected drunk driver crashed into a Geauga County ambulance on Tuesday in Huntsburg, killing a 47-year-old patient and injuring two paramedics.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on OH-528 at Chardon-Windsor Road, which is just northeast of Hershey Montessori School.

Police say that an eastbound Jeep ran a stop sign on Chardon-Windsor and crashed into a South Central Ambulance that was headed south on OH-528.

The collision caused the Jeep to ignite and the ambulance to overturn multiple times along the roadway.

The patient in the back of the ambulance, identified as William Maley Jr., died in the collision.

One of the two paramedics in the ambulance at the time of the accident sustained life-threatening injuries and required air transport to the hospital. The other paramedic also required hospitalization.

Medics transported the driver of the Jeep to the hospital with non-critical injuries. He will likely face charges related to the accident.
