Narrative
PREBLE CO., OH – A head-on collision along a highway in Gratis Township killed both a 34-year-old Preble County Deputy and a 36-year-old man from West Elkton.
The accident happened early in the morning on State Route 503 between Gratis and West Elkton in southeastern Preble County.
Police say that the sheriff’s vehicle was southbound when it collided with a northbound passenger vehicle.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as Michael Gayheart, died at the scene of the accident.
Medics transported the deputy, identified as Joshua Hamilton, to a local hospital, where he died from injuries sustained in the collision.
A full investigation is underway.
