Narrative
NORTHFIELD, OH – A 31-year-old tanker truck driver died Saturday after a fiery solo crash on an exit ramp along Route 8 in Northfield.
The accident occurred around 9:15 a.m. on the northbound bridge exit from Route 8 to I-271. This is the exit that extends over Brandywine Creek.
Police say the driver lost control of a tanker truck carrying approximately 7,500 gallons of fuel, at which point the truck fell off of the Route 8 exit bridge, landed on the the northbound side of Route 8, and caught fire.
The driver, identified as Jason Thomas Stevens, died at the scene of the accident.
Officials closed roadways in the area of the crash while crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the fuel spill.
